So we had to take US 24 to Colorado Springs due to US 50 being shut down due to an accident. Which actually took us past Pike’s Peak (Photos). It did set us back a few hours so we stopped at the Road House. Ruben restored his energy with a steak and tater.
At this point I had a problem with bouciness of the truck and was a bit aggravated, a little motion-sickened, and tired. Popped two Dramamine and slept off and on to Amarillo.
Yep, Amarillo. It’s not as far as planned but we will still use this last day for an all out pedal-to-the-medal marathon… 18 hours to go.
BTW… the two bumped mountain is not Pike’s Peak but something that made Rube and I chuckle. I have no clue why? 🙂
The town of Leadville, CO. if you like snow… wow. This is where measure it in “feet”… unlike our dandruff showers in ATL.
Nature calls. So we stop in Eagle, Colorado. Meet Gus!
Also met a nice lady at the information desk. She totally recommended the route south taking US 24 through the mountains versus going through Denver. It has 14 of the 14000+ ft mountains in route. This will put us in OK City later than planned tonight but she said it’s totally worth it.
Why not? How many times can I say I will be back here driving this route. (knowing me… probably a few times;)
Having started earlier around 8am MST we realized we needed to fix the License plate. The front was good, but we had no back due to a gnarling of the plate from the seller. SEE photo.
So the Safeway parking lot was the place to fix it. Zip ties and clear packing tape.
Onward and eastward.
